OHHS Mural Application
Between now and October 15th, the Allgire Project is accepting applications from class of 2021 Oak Harbor High School students for mural designs that will be displayed in a predetermined space at the Allgire Project.
Eligibility
Oak Harbor High School class of 2021 students
What the winner receives
The winning designer will receive a $1,000 scholarship. All painting materials and supplies, will be provided by the Allgire Project. The winner and top three finalists will all receive artist mentorship session from Lele Barnett.
Application process
Applicants should fill out the form below and send two to five samples of their prior artwork and/or a copy of their proposed mural design to 720sellc@gmail.com
If you choose to send a proposed mural design, please note it can be digital or hand-drawn and we ask that you do not spend more than a hour on a sketch, basic graphic design, or mockup. At this stage, we’re more interested in the concept than the artistic details.
The Allgire Project will select the winning muralist by October 15th, 2020.
Considerations
The artist does not need to have experience with mural painting
Please take the following components into consideration:
The Allgire Project's thematic areas of Whidbey Island’s ecology, industries, history, and cultures (past or present). Not sure where to start with those themes? We suggest using resources like HistoryLink.org and talking a librarian for research resources at your local library.
The space that's been allocated (see details below)
Artistic styles that work well as a mural
The Allgire Project art that is surrounding the proposed space
We encourage the muralist to go visit the walls in person at The Allgire Project and note the texture that they'll be painting on
If the artist is under 18, their parents may need to sign a waiver on the artist painting the mural (ladders, art/design ownership, etc.)
The design space
Measurements and wall space: 14 feet tall by 6 feet wide, has a textured stucco surface and wraps around a corner on the east side of the wall, near a window.
